I really like bears. They are the best animals on earth. They inspired the beloved "Teddy Bear" with the help of some president guy. Bears are always depicted in cartoons as snuggly and sweet. That's why it's hilarious that bears are among the most dangerous creatures on earth.
If you've been lucky enough to spot one in the wild, it's clear that bears do not care about you. They can be timid, scampering off quickly, or they will maintain a courteous distance as they root around for grubs. If you threaten or surprise a cub with a mother close by or if you're dumb enough to taunt a bear with food, God help you. The fact that bears are horribly dangerous just makes them all the cooler.
Bears have shiny, curious noses and eyes. They have gnarled, ferocious claws that help them climb trees and catch fish. Their fur is matted and mangy, covered in dirt.
At the zoo, Bears never doing anything cool. Usually they just sleep, motionless. They don't even stir. There's not even one movement that you can feast your eyes on. Unless, of course it's feeding time. If bird fanatics are called Birdies, call me Bearie.
With all the damage that mankind has done to the ecosystem, we owe it to the bears. Our ecosystem is dependent on all of its parts. If one species is wiped out, it affects every living thing on the planet. If grizzlies were to become extinct, the animal and plant groups that they prey on can suffer from overpopulation. One species overpopulating a food chain can take the chain to the brink of collapse.
