A great way to green up your travels is to make your own travel toiletries before you hit the road. Hotels waste a lot of resources on those mini shampoos, soaps, lotions, and other misc. bathroom items. Each time someone uses one of them and doesn't take it with them, the hotel is forced to throw it out. Making your own travel toiletries is easier than you might think. Once you have all of your toiletries in place, don't rush out just yet to get a toiletries bag.

It's important that your bag for your toiletries is waterproof and zips shut. Without these two important features in place, your bathroom goodies could spill out onto everything else. Believe me, that's a sure way to ruin a day.

A common item that works perfectly for travel toiletries: plastic bags, with a zipper, that enclose sheets and other linens. When you buy new linens, they are usually in one of these bags.

How to turn a linen bag into a travel toiletry bag (something everyone can do!)

  1. Locate your linen bag.

  2. Take a break, run an errand, or have a drink.

  3. Fill it with your green toiletries.

Fill your bag with homemade travel toiletries by following these green recipes and using 3oz toiletry containers:
