You can rent almost any kind of car while on vacation. You can rent an SUV or a van or even have some guy in a cap drive you around in a stretch limousine. There are even places where you can rent hybrid cars and biodiesel trucks. But you can also rent one of the greenest vehicles of them all, the bike.
New York
Bikes are available to rent in almost every major city. There are over a dozen places that rent bikes in New York City. It only costs about 25 dollars a day. The subway can take you from neighborhood to neighborhood and the bike can take you around those neighborhoods. If you're ambitious and it's a nice day, you can ditch the subway and bike the whole city.
Los Angeles
In Los Angeles, consider renting a bicycle from Hollywood Pro Bicycles. You can get a weekly rate of only 90 dollars for a mountain bike and 150 smackers for a road bike. During rush hour, you will be the only vehicle in motion. With gas prices as low as they are now, LA traffic has gotten exponentially worse. So mount up a rental bike and enjoy Los Angeles in motion.
San Francisco
Like New York, San Francisco has a good public transportation system. That will combo well with its many bike rental shops. You can also take a bike tour around the Golden Gate Bridge. You can’t bike to Alcatraz, but you can bike down to pier 39 and hop on a ferry that will take you to Alcatraz.
Washington, DC
Check out our nation's capitol on bike. Most of the biggest tourist attractions are conveniently located next to each other. There is no better way to see these historic attractions. And you won’t even have to worry about parking.
Milford, Connecticut
If you're not from the east cost, you may not be familiar with Milford, Connecticut. It's not that big of a city. It's north of Long Island just across the sound. Why would you want to rent a bike in Milford? Because you can. You can rent a bike almost anywhere.
