Ortine's outdoor seating

READ MORE ABOUT:
Deriving from an old Italian dialect, the word “Ortin” is the name of a small garden plot where farm workers would grow food for themselves next to the farmhouse.
So the name of the restaurant, Ortine, speaks volumes—about its menu and owner, Sarah Peck, who opened the eatery in December 2008 with the wish to create a local cafe that would reflect her ideas about eating—and that would also embody her priorities: fresh, local fare, family, sustainability and community.
Located in Brooklyn’s Prospect Height’s neighborhood, Ortine offers outdoor seating, free WiFi and more notably—a first-of-its-kind daily breakfast, lunch and dinner menu featuring tasty dishes supplied by the restaurant’s very own herb and in-ground vegetable garden.
Talk about eating local.
The menu items sound tasty too, like their Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast Pizza, Tempeh Gumbo, Free-Range Chicken Salad Sandwich and Free-Range Chicken Curry Pot Pie. The beverage menu boasts homemade Kombucha and other unusual brewed teas from Peck’s husband who has experience in traditional Chinese medicine.
Only a stone’s throw away from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, I look forward to making a day trip out of it and sampling the sustainable treats that Ortine has to offer. Yum!
