Order Vegetarian on Your Next Flight

Did you know that getting a vegetarian meal on board can be as easy as a call in advance?

Airplane food can be the worst. If you're lucky enough to soar past the peanut and pretzel staples because of an exceptional airline or first class stature, you still may find yourself unimpressed and unaccommodated when your meal comes.

If you're trying to offset your carbon footprint through vegetarianism, don't let the airplane food get you down. Most airlines allow for advance special request meals. Call the airline 48 hours in advance to confirm the availability of a vegetarian dish on your flight. You might be surprised at how many airlines are willing to work around dietary requirements. With airlines cutting corners on feel-good perks these days, it pays to know which companies are spoiling their customers more than others while still being green. Virgin airlines seems to be leading the pack here and just may be your best bet if you're looking for a vegetarian meal on an airline that, well, doesn't suck.

And if your airline can't come up with a vegetarian meal for you? Bring something in on your own! There's nothing like having some personal food on board. I love grabbing apples and nuts from the little restaurants past security and bringing them with me.
