Kiroshio Sea Tank
Jon Rawlinson
READ MORE ABOUT:
Several weeks ago, a particular video went viral. The video is of an incredible tank at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium of the Kiroshio Sea, the second largest tank in the world. As the diverse life in the tank - from manta rays to whale sharks - glide past the glass, the song "Please Don't Go" by Barcelona plays, making it an intensely beautiful, relaxing scene.
After the video went big, we caught up with Barcelona to get their impression of being part of this video, and what they thought about the impact it has on people when it comes to marine life. This is what the band has to say:
|
There's no way we could have predicted that our music would have been used in a video like Jon Rawlinson's Kuroshio Aquarium piece. Furthermore, there is no way anyone could have predicted the viral success of this video all around the world through the internet. |
Since it was released, we've experienced a whirlwind of excitement and encouragement. It's exciting to realize that such a seemingly simple piece of footage would be described as beautiful, epic, dream-like, entrancing, peaceful, and the like, by hundreds of thousands of people. We are encouraged that one of our songs (Please Don't Go) would somehow be contributing to these descriptions.
In the Northwest, where both Barcelona and Jon [the creator of the video] live, we are extremely lucky to know a very high quality of marine landscape and wildlife. Even though Kuroshio is half way around the world, we feel like we have a deep connection to the beauty portrayed in this video. Before it was made, we had no connection to Jon whatsoever. Now, we are excited to see what the future holds for him and his work, and would consider ourselves privileged to work with him again.
It's our hope that this video continues to reach many people in ways they didn't see coming. If a few minutes of footage can spread this quickly, so can the message behind it. Our song wasn't picked because we were championing Jon's cause. But, regardless of whether we are called directly or indirectly, we are all stewards of the earth and her oceans.
We are flattered and thankful for being involved in this project.
It's true that music can reach people in ways just visuals or just words cannot. We also hope that this beautiful video and its popularity help to remind viewers of how important marine life is to the planet.
