I always ere on the side of ignoring the onslaught of leaves covering my lawn. After all, they are biodegradable and they're good for your lawn, but if you can't stand the leaf buildup, why not rake rather than use a leaf blower?

With Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year's all occurring within a span of just 41 days, celebrating the holiday season can mean packing on the pounds. What a coincidence that a blanket of 50 trillion leaves just fell on your front lawn. According to Thatsfit.com, you're in luck if you have a big tree or two in your yard, because raking leaves can burn 290 calories an hour!

A little elbow grease is also much better for the environment. Gas powered leaf blowers use fossil fuels, add to the laundry list of unnecessary lawn equipment that contributes to your overall consumption, and causes noise pollution.

Once you're done raking, don’t burn your leaves. According to Green Options, burning creates a lot of smoke, especially when leaves are damp, and releases particulate matter and toxic compounds. Some areas offer yard waste pick up in addition to garbage collection and curbside recycling. However, if you don’t have yard waste pick up, mulch or compost your leaves.
