5 Ways to Green Your Tailgate for Football Season

Hearty eats, good beers, and college football, what more do you need? As a die hard Georgia Bulldog fan, I never miss a game day but tailgating can also cause a ton of waste. This season why not take some easy steps toward a greener tailgate?

  1. Serve local grub and skip the convenience foods. All those prepackaged foods come with a ton of waste. All those plastics will be building up in your local landfill for years to come. So skip the prepackaged dips, potato salad, and deviled eggs and make your own. Make your crudites with locally grown veggies. Make your hoagies with bread from a local baker.

  2. For those products that you can't buy locally, buy organic. Products like chips, cookies, brownies, and other snack foods. It's better to find sustainable foods grown close to home, but when they're not available, organic is always better than traditional foods that have been treated with tons of chemicals and pesticides.

  3. Use recycled trash bags instead of regular trash bags. Make sure that you recycle what you can and produce as little waste as possible. Fill trash bags as full as possible. Make a bag for compost materials like excess veggies and fruit.

  4. Don't buy more than you need. There's just no need to throw away half of your grub so plan accordingly.

  5. Wear vintage game gear. Hit the yard sale and dig in your parent's closet to find team t-shirts from yesteryear instead of going out and buying brand spanking new duds for the big game.
