Ahhh fall—the dense humidity replaced suddenly by the crisp, clean air and the vibrant color diversity of autumn. It's the perfect time for a quick weekend getaway with your sweetie to ensure that you actually get to enjoy this fabulous time of year. Hit the mountains, checkout some small town charm, or find a quaint bed and breakfast in a place that you've never been. Find a place that respects the environment as much as you do by picking one of these fabulous fall getaway spots:

  • Check out the Highland Lake Inn in Flat Rock, N.C. Enjoy the leaves changing at this adorable country inn hidden deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. You can even bring your pup. Go hiking, fishing, or just relax. The inn has installed solar thermal water heating panels in one of its houses. It also has a two acre organic garden, when in season, providing the freshest ingredients possible for the gourmet restaurant. The restaurant buys local, sustainable food from local growers. Highland Lake Inn provides special organic garden tours and lunches throughout the summer and early fall to educate guests about how to grow, harvest, and then cook the vegetables, fresh herbs, and flowers in the garden. The hotel is a member of the Green Hotel Association.

  • Head down to the keys and stay at the Eden House in Key West, Fla. If you haven't already been to Key West, it's worth a visit and staying green means hitting this diamond in the rough. Checkout Nancy's Secret Garden for a plush garden picnic, do some yoga on the beach, or check out the sites of the famous key. The vintage beach hotel uses low-flow showerheads, low-flow toilets, compact fluorescent bulbs, and photo sensors for outdoor lights. They also recycle paper, plastic, glass, batteries, cardboard, office paper, and toner cartridges amongst tons of other green practices.

  • Don't miss the Inn at Middleton Place in Charleston, S.C. Stroll through the organic garden, discover the stunning architecture of historic downtown Charleston, take a holistic cooking class, or enjoy one of the meditation programs. The hotel prepares local, organic foods and gives seminars on the importance of a holistic lifestyle.
