Tommy Lee and Ludacris head off to New Orleans to kick off their competition in Battleground Earth. After being devastated by Katrina, New Orleans is slowly bouncing back—and it’s going green too.
There are a number of green initiatives in New Orleans, one being the Green Project—a sustainable operation that takes salvaged building materials and sells them for extremely low prices to those who’re rebuilding their homes. The effort helps keep usable materials out of the landfill, cuts down on emissions that would otherwise be needed to produce and ship the construction wares.
Historic Green is another campaign being waged in New Orleans, with the intent of preserving the city’s rich cultural heritage while rebuilding with sustainability in mind. The program is centered in two of the neighborhoods hit hardest by the hurricane, and it’s working with the Sierra Club to clean up and rebuild—all while thinking green.
