You're doing your part to help the green movement and globe trotting at the same time. Pick your favorite eco-organization and get involved. As a volunteer, you can travel the world! While there are so many opportunities to choose from right in your area, if you're feeling adventurous, here are some very cool, total immersion, volunteer opportunities:

  • The Nature Conservancy
A Planet Green NGO Partner, Nature Conservancy, has tons of opportunities all over the world but here is an idea of the kind of work you would do. As a volunteer with The Nature Conservancy's Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, you'll learn about the diversity of life in southern Arizona. The preserve is looking for dedicated people to join the team. Volunteers will work in a variety of program areas including restoration, interpretation, trail maintenance, and as greeters in the visitor center.

  • Earthwatch.org
Join an Earthwatch Expedition. A Planet Green NGO Parner, Earthwatch works on issues like biodiversity, coral reef health, indigenous cultures, sustainability, habitat loss, and climate change. Here's one of the volunteer opportunities:

Explore the fascinating world of caterpillars to see how they protect themselves and respond to changes in their habitats in Costa Rica. Assisting members of Principal Investigator Dr. Lee Dyer's research team, you'll collect caterpillar species and their host plants, identify, and observe them in the lab, and analyze plant and caterpillar toxins. Dyer and his staff will teach you all these tasks, giving you the opportunity to learn about ecological dynamics at their most intimate level.
