Want to go on a great, green trip, but you don't know where to start? Are you paralyzed by guilt every time you board an airplane? Tired of the same old eco-tourism experiences? Want to see the world and do a good dead at the same time? Well, you can, and you can do so with a well-respected, environmental organization.

MatadorChange has published a list of ten free volunteer opportunities that allow for free travel. Not all of them are environmental causes but a fair few many are.

4 Environmental Volunteer Opportunities

  1. World Wide Opportunities for Organic Farms
WWOOF won't pay you, (there might be a small fee) but they give you free room and board which is much cheaper than a hotel room. You'll be helping support local, farms and agriculture. It's a great opportunity for you to interact with local cultures. Travel to any continent, except Antarctica.

  2. Turtle Teams Worldwide

Sea turtles are an endangered species and they need a lot of help. Check out SeaTurtles.org or CCCturtle.org for volunteer opportunities. For some expeditions, like this sea turtle tagging excursion, you will have to pay money up front, but you'll be able to deduct it as a charitable expense come tax time.

  3. British Trust for Conservation Volunteers

Travel the world and join the conservation effort. You'll find a wide variety of travel and conservation options available. Again, you'll have to pay fees up front, but because it is charitable work, you'll be able to write it all off on your taxes.

  4. Appalachian Trail Conference

Help maintain the 2,000 mile long Appalachian trail and receive free food and lodging. Thousands of endangered species live in that area. You efforts will preserve the trail and encourage ecotourism.
