The Wellness Council for South Carolina, Surfrider Foundation, and Compassion Music hosted this year's 2nd Annual Earth Day Music Fest & Expo on Saturday, April 18th at Grand Park at Market Common in Myrtle Beach. The event drew big crowds in an area not known for being green but with awesome weather, tons of community participation, and no cost for admission, families from all over the state turned out.
I showed up in a long sleeved dress and flip flops and was certainly toasty and maybe even left with a little tan. There truly wasn?t a single cloud in the sky as we came together to recognize the stunning outdoors that make my native state so special. Sideways Derby, Riptide Taxi, Ras Bonghi, and others played atop the sprawling stage as families made picnics and sipped on organic root beer (no booze allowed) in the crowd.
Volunteers from the Surfrider Foundation and Waccamaw Riverkeepers educated festival goers on South Carolina's most beloved resource, our oceans and rivers. The wetlands of this state are truly memorable but for some a day like today brings it all into perspective. You could take a Recycled Art Class with Kimberly Dawn Clayton or maybe taste test some organic snacks from T & J Organics. I chose to wonder around testing organic makeUp and trying on handmade jewelry. Whatever your interest, the event was a great opportunity to show people how this quaint community is moving towards green.
