I've engaged in many years of highly enjoyable camping, backpacking and adventure trips. But, now I'm done with camping. Actually, I've been through with camping ever since I spent 4 soggy, cold days stranded on a tiny island with my family of four. Now, when we venture far from the econest, I do my due diligence and research the eco-friendliness of the accommodations down to the mattresses. No camp grounds even enter my search engine anymore. Even these snazzy solar tents couldn't get me to sleep on the ground. I know, it's kind of wimpy of me. But, like I said, "I'm done with camping." So, not much coaxing or conniving could get me to snuggle back into a sleeping bag, even if my kids traveled back in time and were the cutest four year olds again (which they were a long time ago). Until now…

The History of Glamping?
"Glamping truly originated in the early 1900's, with the popularization of the safari. The word safari is an Arabic verb meaning "to make a journey," and an entire industry was created to cater to the need of the demanding European and American travelers looking to bag a trophy and experience adventure in the wilds of Africa. Naturally, the wealthy travelers weren't eager to part with the creature comforts of home, and instead stayed in luxurious canvas tent lodging. These tens were fully furnished with bed, luxurious bedding, Persian rugs, antiques and fully staffed with chefs, guides, porters and butlers." ~ Glamping Girl
What is Glamping?
"Glamping adds a new dimension to camping by introducing gourmet food, wine, and five-star-hotel-quality slumber to your wilderness experience. Accommodations range from ordinary camping tents outfitted with mattresses and luxury linens to canvas cottages decked out like condos. Featherbeds, dressers, couches, Oriental rugs, tables, chairs, and even heating and cooling elements are all fair game. Guides typically prepare “campfire cuisine,” or chefs do the cooking in a gourmet mobile kitchen." ~ Go Glamping
I'm sure hard-core campers (and members of my family) will dismiss Glamping as way too cushy. That's just fine with me. But, for those of us who want to sleep under the stars with just a bit less roughing it and a tad more comfort, Glamping may just be what brings those campers back into the wilderness.
