READ MORE ABOUT:
Dog parks are a way of life for many dog owners, especially for those in large cities. Not only are they a great way to treat your pooch to a little fun, but they also allow dogs to socialize with other dogs. Every year, Dog Fancy readers submit nominations for their favorite American dog park. The parks themselves must have fencing, double gates, and free clean-up bags to be considered dog parks. The judging is based on categories including shade, special events, water, and accessibility.
This year's No. 1 dog park is Freedom Bark Park in Lowell, Ind.
The runner-up dog parks are:
Dog Wood Dog Park, Jacksonville, Fla.
Howard and Erna Soldan Dog Park, Lansing, Mich.
Cheyenne Park Off-Leash Area, Ely, Iowa
Jackson's Howlabaloo Dog Park, Edinboro, Pa.
Happy Tails Dog Park, Dunedin, Fla.
Shaggy Pines Dog Park, Ada, Mich.
Ossining Dog Park, Ossining, N.Y.
Dogwood Park at Victor Ashe Park, Knoxville, Tenn.
Millie Bush Bark Park, Houston, Texas
Frequent the Dog Park
Taking your dog to the dog park is an awesome opportunity to get outdoors and in touch with nature together. So grab a leash and take your dog to the dog park. Dog parks are great for socializing your pets so that they deal well with other dogs and with humans. They are also a great way for pet owners to meet friends with similar interests.
Be Green at the Dog Park
Don't dirty the dog park. If you're looking for plastic-free pooper picker uppers for your pups, try a biodegradable pet-waste bag made out of corn. Companies such as BioBag and Oops I Pooped make great biodegradable bags. You can also get your mitts on a Skooperbox, a patented box made from 100 percent recycled material. The box is also completely biodegradable.
