With Fall beginning, the leaves will soon be off the trees and on your lawn. Granted, I don't have a lawn these days in NYC, but I used to in Ohio. Every year growing up, my dad used to get so upset about the leaves on the ground. He'd have to devote an entire day to raking and gathering leaves. Sometimes we would burn leaves and other times we'd drive them to the dump. UGH. What a waste!
There are better ways to use your leaves this fall, here are some ideas:
- Don't dispose of them at all: There's nothing wrong with leaving your yard the way it is meant to be naturally. Devote a section of your lawn to leaves if their appearance bothers you so much.
- Frame them: Framing the prettiest of leaves makes for a great fall decoration and it's cheap, too!
- Turn them into potpourri: I don't know about you, but I love the smell of leaves in the fall. In fact, it's something that I have been missing a lot ever since I made the move to NYC. Crumble up your leaves and place them in mesh bags to keep a room smelling great.
If you use your imagination, you'll be able to think of ways to use the leaves in your lawn. Whatever you do, don't just throw them away!
