The world's single biggest litter problem isn't candy bar wrappers dropped on the beach or fast food packaging tossed from a car window. It's not plastic bottles left after sporting events or paper receipts that fall out of the garbage. The world's single biggest litter problem is cigarette butts.

The problem is a huge one. More than 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are littered worldwide and more than 250 billion are littered in the United States alone. Most of these find their way into streams, rivers, and storm drains and are then carried to the ocean. Often confused for food, these butts end up in the stomachs of fish and marine birds and then, eventually, back on our dinner plates.

To learn more about this problem, don't miss this online video from Stuff Happens.
