Are you passionate about saving the environment? Do you want to spread the word about climate change? Are you looking for a way to take action on your college campus? Do you love music? Whether you answered yes to all or just one of these questions, the National Wild Life Federation's Chill Out campaign is for you.
Chill Out is a nation-wide effort to encourage and reward campus-based climate activism. Planet Green's NGO Partner, the National Wildlife Federation, is providing resources to help students organize and raise awareness about the issue. In addition, outstanding students and staff members will be eligible to win awards recognizing their achievements in developing real solutions to global warming. Al Gore, who is an event participant, said that "This competition and the creativity it represents will be a key part of how we can create a better world: a world with a vibrant, sustainable economy and a healthy earth for all future generations."
Students who register themselves or their campus will receive a free mp3 from the up-and-coming Austin rock band The Steps and will be entered into a contest to win a free Kaplan test-prep course. In addition to these incentives, the National Wildlife Federation provides a platform and the resources needed to promote your own Chill Out event.
Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, gave encouragement to all participants, stating:
I am so proud of these pioneering students who are not only creating real solutions to confront climate change, but are keeping California on the cutting edge of innovation...the fact that half the winners from this nationwide contest are from California proves once again that we are home to some of the brightest minds in the world who are spurring new technologies while helping to create a better environment for future generations.
Whether you want to organize an event or join one already in the works, don't forget to watch the April 15 webcast during which the winners will be announced and a new call to action issued. In addition to Al Gore, the event will also feature a wide range of celebrities and activists including Courtney Gains, Annabelle Gurwitch, Alisa Reyes, Angela Shelton, Jeff Skoll, Douglas Spain, Michael Welch, Actor Jose Yenque (Traffic), Actor Shawn-Caulin Young, and many more.
Get started tacking action on your campus today by signing up for the National Wildlife Federation's Chill Out event.
Watch the Chill Out Webcast Wednesday, April 15, 2009, starting at 9am.
