Many fresh breath-seeking folks love the “Curiously Strong Mint” but landfills certainly don’t lust for the tin packaging that gets trashed everytime someone gobbles up their last minty bauble. And why should you when there are so many great ways to put them to use?
Here’s another one to add to the long list of Altoid Tin reuse ideas. It’s a DIY Portable Travel Game set. Super cute and super fun for camping trips, sleep away camp or simply those times when sugared-up little Susie and Tom get antsy and anxious (read: hyper) during long eco-travel trips.
Games are almost always geared towards kids but grown-ups will love ‘em to—especially the selection of four classically vintage games: checkers, chess, tic-tac-toe and backgammon.
Cull together your Altoids tin, some magnets, modeling clay, and the print & cut-out game templates and get on your way to good times.
While I’m not crazy about the fact that the game pieces call for PVC-containing Fimo modeling clay, the website does state that the hormone-disrupting phthalates have been removed since 2006. Whether or not this is true, I suspect a homemade, 4-in-1 game set using a repurposed object is greener than creating clutter with a brand new, full-sized board game (or four!) which requires way more materials and energy to make.
An added perk: you’ll save cash too!
