Tomorrow, January 20, Boulder is holding its second annual Winter Bike to Work Day. It's exciting because the event is hosted—and encouraged—by the city itself. So anyone in Boulder, get out an extra layer and join in the emissions-reducing fun.

There's a bit of an unfair advantage here in Boulder because the bike lanes and paths are plentiful and well-kept, even during the winter, and there's a good chance the weather won't be particularly winter-like on the actual day, given how sporadic the weather patterns are here.

Chicago, also hosting a Winter Bike to Work Day, might deserve extra points for bravery—they don't have the help of the city government on their side, plus they're celebrating Chicago's coldest day on record: January 20, 1985, when not only did the temperature hit negative 27 degrees, but the wind gusted up to 36 mph, meaning wind chills felt as low as 93 degrees below zero. I'm not sure I'd get on my bike in that weather, but the Active Transport Alliance will be ready to go on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Some cyclists in Wichita are up for the challenge as well. Is your city biking to work this winter?
