Could the Time of Day Lower Your Gas Price?

Gas is denser in the morning and evening.

Gas prices are climbing back up to heartbreak level again. We're paying like three and a quarter here in Los Angeles. I am financially devastated whenever I see my fuel light flash on. So I am constantly on the look out for devious ways to save money.

Improving your gas mileage is a great way to lower your carbon footprint. Inflating your tires, using the correct motor oil, unloading heavy materials from your trunk and driving responsibly are all well-known ways of saving gasoline. However, I have found a crafty and little-known way to get more gasoline for my ever-shrinking buck.

According to HowStuffWorks, gas is denser when temperatures are cooler. Therefore, buying gasoline in the mornings and evenings will yield denser gas. Gas is bought by the gallon and not by the density. When you fill up your gas tank in the morning or evening, you'll be able to get a bit more gas for less money.

So yes, the time of day could lower your gas price.

You can use the extra money to fix a broken gas cap or plant a tree.
