An estimated 97 billion emails whisk through cyberspace every day; while you may not be able to stem the tide of your overflowing email box, there's an easy action to help the planet that you can take with each message that zooms into your box: please consider the planet before printing that email.
That doesn't mean you can't print emails when you need them, but you almost certainly don't need hard copies of them all; you'll have less clutter to deal with, and we'll all be using less paper. As a bonus tip (and something that we TreeHuggers have been doing for awhile), proudly display your paperless-ness to everyone with whom you trade electronic correspondence: add something like "Eco-Tip: Printing e-mails is usually a waste. Make this tip go viral, add it to your e-mail signature," or "Please consider the planet before printing this email" to your outgoing email signature. You'll save a tree, save the clutter and maybe help save your friends from an avalanche of needless paper.
