You Can Sell Unused Engine Parts from that Electric Vehicle (EV) Conversion

Squeeze as much money as you can out of your electric conversion car.

When you perform an electric car conversion there will be parts of the car you will not need. A great donor car is a vehicle that is in need of financial repair on the engine. You don't need the engine anyway so if a blown engine can devalue the price of the car, you save more money!!

One of the biggest parts you will be removing from the car is the engine. Since you will not need the engine, there is a good chance that somebody would be willing to buy a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine. They would either buy it for their car or for scrap metal.

Somewhere there is a person that will want that 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine you are removing from your "soon to be" electric vehicle chassis for their car or scrap metal.

There are also some people out there that would buy the old car battery in that vehicle soon to be your electric car.

Here are some quick ways to sell off those parts you do not need for your electric car:

  1. Make a few phone calls and place want ads in your local Pennysaver
  2. Call dealers and junk yards
  3. See if you can trade the parts for something of value on craigslist
  4. Do all of this early, before you are in the middle of your conversion.

Sooner or later you will sell those parts and save some money on that electric car conversion. (Source: Build Your Own Electric Vehicle, 2nd Edition by Seth Leitman and Bob Brant.)
