Some of the technology from twenty years ago seems so outmoded. It's like a novel archeological find. What was our society like twenty some odd years ago? People were singing goofy jingles into their answering machine. How far we've come. I'd better go write something silly on my Facebook status.
There are still some of us who have answering machines taking up space in closets and whatnot. Can they be reused, repurposed or recycled?
Suggestions for answering machine reuses
- Leave Notes
Purdue University recommends using old answering machines as a way to leave messages to family members. It would save on Post-It notes. And could be a nice way to hear the voices of your busy loved ones. - Dictation
Phone interviews with a cell phone can be tough. You must balance a phone. Hold a tape recorder over the earpiece, but still be responsive enough to ask questions and follow paths of inquiry. An answering machine is a reliable and wieldy counterpart. - Recycle Them
Answering machines spend all day plugged into the wall. They leech phantom power. It might be time to kiss your answering machine goodbye by recycling it. Make sure to recycle it properly. - Donate Answering Machines
You can donate them to thrift stores. You can also donate them to fix-it stores who can repurpose the parts.
