I've had it with my laptop's power cable. It seems as though it snags and breaks on a whim and it costs me about $80 to replace it every time it does. I, probably like you, need my computer for handling everything from my professional to personal affairs. When a power cable to a laptop breaks, I don't have much time to kill before I have to go and get a new one.

I'm sick of it.

Not only is it expensive and annoying, but it's a waste.

If you're in the market to learn how to repair a broken cable, check out this wonderful step-by-step explanation on Instructables.

If you'd rather just suck it up and get a new one, but do it without wasting your old one, here are some ideas for that broken cables(s) you have lying around.

  1. Christmas Ornaments
'Tis the season to be jolly...and crafty. Laptop power cables are long enough that you can get a good bit of ornament-hanging cord out of them. You can cut off a chunk of the cord and hang your own ornament with it. To make it look more professional, tape the ends together to form a loop and paint over the entire cable so that the tape is covered.

  2. Necklace
If you can't use your cable, why not wear it? Tape, again, is the best way to secure the ends of the cable. Duct tape works well and will keep it together. Get some chunky beads to string through the cable and then tape them back together.

  3. Storage for bags
Whether you're trying to store up the extra plastic bags you may have taken from a store or you purses, the computer cable is a sturdy way to link them all together without having to worry about the weight. Cut off the ends of the cable and string your bags through by the handle. You can tie the ends of the cable together when you're done to keep them all together.

Is it annoying to have a computer cable that is constantly breaking? You bet it is, but that doesn't mean that we need to contribute that broken cable to a landfill.
