Untether yourself from your desk by extending your Wi-Fi network with a solar-powered repeater. Mike Outmesguine of Popular Science wanted to take his Web surfing outside, so he built a box capable of picking up his Wi-Fi signal at home, and then boosting it another 200 to 300 feet.
You'll need to modify a Linksys Wi-Fi range expander ($100) with an omnidirectional 9dBi antenna ($59). To avoid unsightly extension cords in his flower bed, Outmesguine also added a lead-acid battery from RadioShack ($22), plus a 10-watt solar panel ($119) to charge it. Come late spring, it could be you sipping iced tea and checking this site out, while you're lolling in your hammock out back. ::Popular Science
