On Living With Ed, we learned that not all machines and appliances are bad for the environment. When Ed once thought that washing dishes by hand was the eco-friendly way to clean, he was shocked to learn that an Energy Star dishwasher actually used much less water than he did when washing by hand. It's all about finding products that are energy efficient. At the end of the day, if a machine can do it better-and more responsibly-than you can, why not let the machine go ahead and have its place in our lives? Here are some of my favorite energy efficient products for the home that help instead of hurt the environment.

Energy Star Dishwasher. This washer uses about 40% less energy than most other dishwashers. Energy Star has an array of products, though. So if you're in the market for something other than a dishwasher... Air Conditioner, Furnace, Washing Machine, etc... check out Energy Star.

GE Refrigerator. GE has really been stepping it up lately when it comes down to energy efficient appliances. Their refrigerator is great, but so are their other appliances!

More and more appliance and machine lines are becoming energy efficient. If your favorite brand doesn't already have a greener alternative, it probably will sooner than later. But until then, support the brands above because they are truly trying to make a difference with their products-and succeeding!
