Tommy Lee and Ludacris are certainly accustomed to life in the spotlight, so it’s no surprise that they step-up the challenge of using the sunlight in a solar showdown on Battleground Earth. But, solar power is not just for the stars.Learn the basics about this phenomenal technology and how you too can go solar.

Solar power is one of the most promising sectors of green technology. It is the only source that is 100 percent renewable with 0 percent pollution.Basically, photovoltaic cells, commonly referred to as solar cells, convert sunlight into electricity. The cells are made of semiconductor material which absorbs light and through a complex process transforms electrons into electrical currents.Scientists have proven with great success that solar energy can power everything from cars and homes to common electronic devices.

The most significant downside to solar energy continues to be the cost of the technology.Currently a person would spend about $9 per watt to set up a solar grid on the roof of a modest home.Even with gas and electricity prices on the rise, the solar option is still a much more expensive endeavor.Unfortunately, this means widespread use of solar energy in homes is still a goal for the future.

However, the technology has reached a point where other solar powered products are accessible to the everyday shopper. Amazon.com has well over 100 items the common man can snap-up for various household and recreational uses. Many of the items are constructed to even recharge battery powered electronics. My favorite product is the cell phone charger which definitely fits in my budget and will allow me to power up without an outlet. For number crunchers or the mathematically challenged, you’ll find an impressive array of calculators. The great news is you can balance your budget without ever needing a battery.Take a few minutes to look for the solar electronics right for you. What you find might brighten your day.
