Imagine you're in a new city or even a different neighborhood in your hometown. You want a coffee and, looking around, you can see several options. They all offer the usual coffee shop amenities but how do you know which one has the most eco-friendly coffee? Which one uses green cleaning supplies and has taken measures to reduce water consumption? If you were a local, you might know the answers but, as a visitor, it is nearly impossible to find out immediately. That is it was impossible.

Now, thanks to ubiquitous connectivity and new handheld devices like the iPhone, green-minded software developers have made finding the most eco-friendly businesses anywhere you go an easy task. Leading the charge is 3rdWhale and their free mobile application. Armed with a 3rdWhale equipped iPhone, users can quickly and easily search for green businesses in their immediate area, a process that is simplified by the geo-aware phone's GPS. All options are listed and maps provided, making it easy to walk or bike to the destination of choice.

A new version of 3rdWhale, to be unveiled on May 9, goes one step farther by integrating green-living tips from Creative Citizen. With this feature added, users will be able to receive tips, based on their business searches, for going green that include "a set of tangible benefits, enumerating precisely how that action will reduce the use of water, energy, waste, carbon dioxide AND dollars." The idea, as Max Gladwell explained, is to "shift from green hype to green habit." Providing detailed information and making it easily accessed and readily available is certainly one way to accomplish this.

If you have an iPhone, make it a bit greener today with 3rdWhale's free download.
