If you’re short on a phone, camera and all-around life organizer, the iPhone is a green way to multi-task your gadgets into one super-cool one. After all, one gadget is better than four to help avoid e-waste. The iPhone's excessive packaging on the other hand, isn’t so eco-friendly. (I remember being similarly horrified by the packaging my little iPod Nano came in!)
But there is something you can do about it. Make your purchase greener by repurposing the iPhone’s container into a DIY Copy Stand.
Though the new iPhone comes equipped as an amateur photo-snapper’s dream—touting increased resolution and new autofocus—close-ups however, remain a challenge. Holding the iPhone steady enough to minimize camera shake isn’t easy and getting the plane of the camera parallel to plane of its subject (to avoid distortion) is difficult.
The simple fix to it all lies in what we’d otherwise deem waste.
Check out the video below courtesy of The Digital Story to learn how to snap close-ups like a pro and all the while, save some excess trash from hitting the landfills.
An even greener tip: Darren suggests purchasing a plastic box from a dollar store to create the stand but you likely already have one. Use the one you have, or buy one from a garage sale instead to put the second “R” into play: Reuse!
