As we walk to and from work, in and out of our favorite lunch stops, and up and down the subway stairs, we expend a lot of energy. What if our doors, staircases, and sidewalks were engineered to harness some of that energy and turn it into electricity that could power buildings?

Accomplishing such a thing would literally take a revolution in door design, which is exactly what Carmen Trundell and Jenny Broutin, designers at Fluxxlab, are working on. They have designed a revolving door capable of generating electricity with each rotation. While the numbers are currently small, the door is capable of powering a compact florescent bulb for 31 hours after one day's busy use.

However, even greater things are on the horizon. The pair is currently working on a new electricity generator design that would take advantage of a revolving door's size to produce maximal amounts of energy.

To find out more about this fascinating design, check out the exclusive online video from G Word.
