Imagine if a 10,000 pound Hummer with an engine capable of providing 850 horsepower could also have an efficiency of 29 miles per gallon or more using renewable biodiesel. As unlikely as a green Hummer sounds, it is possible and one shop is pushing the envelope to preserve power while reducing these large vehicle's impact on the environment.
G Word correspondent David Newsom visits Johnathan Goodwin, owner of H-Line Conversions, a company that modifies Hummer's to increase their fuel efficiency and decrease their environmental impact. Johnathan explains that by simply replacing the gas engine with a diesel engine the efficiency of a Hummer goes from 10 miles per gallon to almost 30 and, if biodiesel is used, emissions are reduced by 80%.
But that is only the beginning. Join David and Johnathan as they look at a Hummer capable of running on four or more different types of fuel and another capable of getting an unbelievable 45 miles to the gallon.
