Sometimes being green means compromising performance or cutting back on power. However, this is not at all the case with the X-1 Prototype, a concept electric race car designed and built by Ian Wright.
David Newsom joins Ian for a test drive of the X-1 and discovers, whether on the street or the race track, the car, which is fully electric, sacrifices nothing when it comes to speed and acceleration. Achieving 0 to 60 in three seconds and reaching speeds over 150 mph with ease, the X-1 can compete with the fastest gasoline-powered cars on the road. Add to this a range of 100 miles on a single charge and you have a high-tech electric vehicle for the future.
But Ian concedes that he has his doubts about the viability of fully-electric vehicles for the consumer market. Instead, he envisions a world in which the roads are populated by high-efficiency hybrids, incorporating the innovations of the X-1 into a vehicle that gets an extended range with the help of a small gas-powered generator.
