Schlepping your worldly goods from here to there, whether it's around the block or clear across the country, is where it gets tricky. While there isn't a national moving company that runs on biodiesel just yet, you might be able to find the odd biodiesel-powered van or truck for rent in your area via the local newspaper classifieds, yellow pages, or through Craigslist.
Of course, if you're hiring movers, you can ask/beg/bribe them to consider using biofuel in their diesel trucks for your move. And, if you're renting a diesel truck and doing the hauling yourself, it couldn't hurt to ask if you can fill the tank with biodiesel-the worst response you can get is no (and maybe a pair of flared nostrils.)If all else fails, consider making amends for the environmental impact of your move by purchasing carbon credits from offset providers such as Bonneville Environmental Foundation, The Climate Trust, Native Energy, and TerraPass.
With the help of online calculators, you can estimate how much carbon dioxide your move is going to pump into the air, and then subsidize that amount by funding an alternative-energy project that generates electricity without producing greenhouse-gas emissions.
