Not into riding your bike? Is the walk a little too far? Why not think out of the box when it comes to your morning commute? Skateboarding used to be all the rage when I was growing up, a great way to let loose after school. But recently my friend bought a skateboard for his morning commute. Nothing gets his day started like rolling into work on his favorite eco-friendly wheels. No, he's not doing ollies on the job or hitting the half pipe on his lunch break, his skate board has become a real mode of transportation. Why not invest in this retro mode of green transportation?

  • Get your board from Goodwill if possible. Find a board that needs a new home instead of ensuring its inevitable future at your local landfill. Reduce your consumption by reusing instead of just buying a new one.

  • If you must buy a new board, buy a green board. Comet Skateboards manufactures a skateboard that comes from sustainably managed forests. The boards are also topped with bamboo veneer and painted with water based paints. It's even manufactured in the world's first solar-powered skate board factory.

  • Tell the office about your eco-friendly commute. Make it cool to go green and influence those that are hesitant to try less traditional modes of transportation.

Are you a green hipster looking for all things green and cool? Then you'll love actor and eco-activist Adrian Grenier and his team of environmental experts, who live it up with sustainable style on Planet Green TV's Alter Eco.
