A town the size of Greensburg doesn't necessarily need an extensive public transportation system-but cities around the country do. By using public transit like buses, you're already helping to lessen your eco-footprint. But revolutions in green technology have allowed public buses to get even greener.

For example, Oakland employs three hydrogen powered buses that drastically cut emissions from the typical diesel powered buses. The buses get their power from fuel cells that produce electricity by converting hydrogen and oxygen into water. This eco-friendly fleet is still pretty expensive, though each bus costs around 2 million dollars to make.

New York City is trying to revamp its entire approach to public transit and green up every aspect from rooftop gardens on the bus depots to windmills at rail yards. The city already uses a number of hybrid electric buses thanks in part to the Clean Fuel Bus Program, which is busy integrating 700 hybrid buses into the system by the end of 2008. Both hydrogen and electric powered vehicles are the wave of the public transit future-petition your city to join in the mass transit eco movement today!
