To reduce its visitors' carbon footprint, Hotel Monaco Portland has launched a car-free vacation package that includes public-transit ticket reimbursement to and from the airport, all-day bike rentals for two, and a sustainable picnic lunch at the hotel's adjoining restaurant. Guests also receive biking and walking maps so they can explore Portland, Ore. by foot and pedal power.

Of course, you don't need to recruit the services of a hotel concierge to green up your holiday. Consider assembling your own eco-friendly vacation package by making similar arrangements ahead of time. Do a little search-engine footwork to research car-free and bike-rental possibilities, or contact your destination's tourism board for suggestions.
