You may not be ready to make your own biodiesel just yet, but you can still dip into petrochemical alternatives by choosing a natural, plant-based oil to grease squeaky hinges and stuck machinery. You're probably already familiar with it: Jojoba oil.

Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax that never goes rancid, says Annie Berthold-Bond of Care2.com. And, unlike its petroleum counterparts, this particular oil is biodegradable and non-polluting. Tip: Bond recommends using an glass eye dropper for precision. ::Care2.com
