The December 2007 issue of O Magazine picks the brains of one of then nation's busiest errand runners to uncover this time- and fuel-saver: Avoid left-hand turns. UPS developed a software program that maps out delivery routes using a majority of right-hand turns, a move that helped save the delivery company about three million gallons of fuel and more than 28 million miles in the past year alone.
UPS employees who utilize this maneuver during their downtime swear it can whittle at least a minute from each errand. If you have to run five errands an hour, this unidirectional technique can add up to five to 10 minutes of saved time. ::O Magazine
