Imagine our surprise when Ken Rother, vice president of Planet Green Interactive at the Discovery Network and our boss, sent this picture of his breadboarded (or should we say chalahboarded?) version of the Electronic LED Hanukkiyah, noting
Thanks for the idea, i just couldn't help myself. I do think my project is "greener" since it was built so that it can be taken apart and all the bits can then be used again.
Why, it turns out that our Ken is so nerdy that he has his own website, carefully designed to look like all those 1995 nerdy sites, and has captured the look and feel perfectly. It even has frames! see it here.
We followed up with a short interview.Planet Green: Where did you learn your electronix mad skillz?
Ken Rother: Self-taught really. I studied software at school. Hardware is the old story of kid who tinkered with electronics built his first computer at some young age, etc
PG: Did you have all the parts kicking around?
KR: Scary yes, still try and get the odd project going.
PG: How long did it take you to put together?
KR: an hour or so. It uses a microchip called a PIC 16F84-very simple to program eight LEDs, a clock chip, a few resistors, and a switch.
Difficulty level Easy
