There's a new option that's cropped up in the now-familiar process of booking a flight or travel plans online—and it's a green one. Some of the biggest online travel agencies are now offering a carbon offset purchase when you arrange a flight/car rental/hotel reservation. And you should use it—we all should be considering our carbon footprint when we travel.

Travelocity and Expedia, in addition to some actual airlines, like British Airways, now offer a quick option to buy a carbon refund after you've entered your destination and information into the fields on the site. It's just a simple click, a couple bucks, and there you have it, carbon offset. You've just helped make greener skies for the airlines.

Carbon Offsets Over the Internet

It's a simple, quick opportunity to compensate a bit for the consequences of air travel—and it's cheap. The offsets typically start at around five bucks—not exactly breaking the bank after you've already shelled out hundreds for a flight.

And even if you're not using one of those aforementioned online agencies to book your flight, you can still offset your trip with the Carbonfund.org. And the Carbonfund.org is no gimmick-as of right now, it's offsetting some 3 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, thanks in part to ordinary individuals like you. It's just as simple, and you can buy whatever you feel best suits your budget.

Buying offsets may seem like a minor move in the greater scope of things, but as is the case with so many pro-environmental deeds in the modern era—every little bit helps.
