Perhaps you drive an alternative fuel vehicle. When you tool around your city, you look fly and confident behind the wheel of your eco-friendly car. And you feel secure while driving, because you know exactly where to find more alternative fuel.
Now let's say you'd like to take a little trip in your alternative fuel vehicle. Uh oh. Where are you going to find a some hydrogen, biodiesel, ethanol (E85) or liquefied natural gas? You can't just stop at any old gas station to find those fuels.
Luckily, the Department of Energy has compiled an interactive map that can help biofuel commuters find fuel for their eco-rides. Simply type in your location and put a check in an alternative fuel box, The database will spit back answers.
The best feature to this map, in my humble opinion, is the route-planning feature. Want to drive your biodiesel machine from LA to NYC? Click on the MAP A ROUTE tab and plug in the information. The database spits back the best route for you to take, showing you where are all available filling stations are on the way.
Before you plan a route make sure that these alternative fuel stops are open to the public. Some pit stops are private or government only.
