What Kind of Chair?

By Lloyd Alter IN Work & Connect Dec 17 2008

Some people, like Planet Green editor Erin, do not even use chairs; she sits on an exercise ball. We asked her why: "A ball is more fun and engaging throughout the day than a chair and I hear it is good for your back which feels true enough. I switch between that and a proper desk chair, though—each has its virtue." + READ MORE

What kind of desk?

By Lloyd Alter IN Work & Connect Dec 17 2008

Desks aren't what they used to be; with a notebook computer you can work anywhere, but what is most important is that you get the ergonomics right. There are a couple of fancy adjustable ones around, like Stilvoll's Amazing Transformer Stand-up Desk we saw at ICFF last year. + READ MORE

The great thing about computers today is that they last a long time; it used to be that hardware and operating system upgrades came so quickly that one was replacing them every couple of years; now that so much of our work is done on the internet, computers are almost all fast enough, and changing the operating system is no longer a must-do. The Home office: Keep it safe and healthy

By Lloyd Alter IN Work & Connect Dec 17 2008

here is a tendency to put the home office in an undesirable location; after all, most of the places in a house are taken. But you are going to be putting in a lot of hours, you have to be able to concentrate and you have to stay healthy. You will need a bit of privacy from the kids; even Teddy Roosevelt had trouble coping, reportedly saying about his oldest daughter: "I can be president of the United States, or I can control Alice. I cannot possibly do both." + READ MORE

Propose Teleconferencing to Your Company—Save Money and Energy

By Trevor Reichman IN Work & Connect Aug 28 2008

Our meeting today did not require an unfathomable amount of carbon credits to offset either. + READ MORE
