This is a healthy experiment to find out how much water you actually need to get sparkly clean. What you will need:

  1. A 5-gallon bucket
  2. 2 sponges
  3. A washtub (or your bathtub)

Follow these steps:

  1. Fill up the 5-gallon bucket with water and keep it close by.
  2. Get in the tub and get Naked (the order is up to you)!
  3. Dip the sponge in the bucket to get it soaking wet; squeeze and rub it all over your body.
  4. Get the 2nd sponge wet, apply soap to it and your body, and lather up really good.
  5. Rinse off with the 1st sponge
  6. Repeat if necessary

The same directions can be followed for your hair if it is a shampoo day.

You will find that you have only used a gallon or two and definitely no more than five. More importantly, you will find yourself sparkly clean as promised.

Even a short ten minute shower with a low-flow showerhead uses about 25 gallons of water!

This little bucket experiment can be replicated in your shower without the bucket by turning off the shower head when lathering up and keeping the actual water flow down to a minute or two.

This post was inspired by Episode 7 of Wa$ted.
