For Sheryl Crow's July 2007 baby shower, in honor of her baby son Wyatt, party planner Traci Phillips designed an eco-friendly shindig anyone can replicate. Online at Wee Generation, you can find a video of Phillips explaining how she pulled the green fete together, as well as a slide show of photographs from the shower.

Here are some of her planet-saving tips for welcoming a new life into the world with panache:

1. To reduce waste, use ceramic dishes, drinking glasses, silverware, and linens, instead of opting for disposables
2. Visit your local farmers' market to source for fresh organic foods, organic flowers, and even organic vino, if it's available. Phillips speared organic blueberries with a diaper pin to create a garnish for the organic blueberry cocktails-concocted with organic blueberry juice and organic vodka-that were served.

3. Use recycled, biodegradable place-setting decorations. Phillips used locally grown wheatgrass. Nestled in each pot was a plantable card that guests could take home and grow in their gardens.

4. Find alternatives to wrapping paper: You can wrap your present in a baby blanket, which becomes part of the gift. Or secure a cloth diaper around your gift and then secure the package with reusable diaper pins. She also suggests placing your gift in a reusable fabric bag and then, instead of stuffing it with tissue paper, padding it with a bandana that can be used again afterward.

5. Use an organic cotton onesie in lieu of a guest book. Everyone at Wyatt's shower signed their names using fabric pens, creating an instant keepsake for both Mom and baby.

6. Decorate the place with items Mom can use. To welcome guests, Phillips strung a clothesline pinned with baby clothes and toys above the front door.
