Take the Pledge: Change a Light, Change the World

Okay, so you already know that every compact fluorescent light bulb you use can save you at least $30 and that you can pick the right color light to suit you, but have you actually gone and changed any bulbs yet? If you haven't, that's OK-it's never too late to start taking positive action. You can start today by taking Energy Star's pledge to change a light.

Its Change a Light, Change the World campaign is a national challenge to encourage every American to help change the world, one light-one energy-saving step-at a time. While changing just one bulb might not seem like much, remember that if everyone in America just changed one, it would save more than $600 million in annual energy costs, while preventing the greenhouse-gas equivalent of the emissions of more than 800,000 cars. The pledge isn't designed to shame you into changing your behavior-the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) won't be breaking down your down to check and make sure you've changed; rather, it wants you to be counted as part of a group that cares enough about the future of the planet to do something about it, as well as showing that one little pledge, repeated over and over, can make a big difference.

Once you've taken the pledge, you can learn more about CFLs and pass the pledge along to your friends. And, when you're looking for bulbs to use as replacements, be sure to look for the little blue Energy Star logo; the EPA has tested them to ensure that they'll live up to their billing for long life, low energy-use and high-quality light. ::Energy Star
