You probably consider a wide range of factors when you're looking into buying new drawers, a closet, a cabinet or an armoire. Is it stylish? Well-priced? Functional? And so on. But there's another question you should probably be asking, too: is it sustainable?

In order to promote sustainable building practices around the globe, you should look into getting a green place to stash your stuff.

For instance, take a look at this bamboo garment rack from the Container Store. Or, consider these stark but chic bamboo storage crates from World Market. Bamboo grows quickly and is an extremely renewable resource.

Or, for extra-classy sustainable storage options, check out these armoires, cabinets and dressers from Lekker that are made from teak that's been reclaimed from salvaged buildings.

Another cutting edge furniture design shop, Ancient Modes, offers cabinets and dressers made from recycled timber.

So when you're shopping around for your next in-home storage unit, make sure to keep an eye out for brands and models that promote sustainability.
