On Greenovate, Chris Prelitz plans to turn his Laguna Beach, California home into a model solar power residence. Even if you can't afford to harness the suns energy to completely power your pad, there are plenty of solar items you can use. Here are five super solar purchases.

  1. Water heater. Use the sun to heat up your home's water. Units can save you up to 80% on your water heating bill.

  2. Generator. These solar powered gems can charge everything from laptops to larger appliances. They are not only efficient, but they make it easy to work outdoors.

  3. Grill. Let the sun shine on your next summer BBQ. Solar grills harness the suns heat to cook up your meat.

  4. Toy race car. Take the kids outside to enjoy an old fashioned street race with their new solar powered cars. They are reasonably priced and you'll never have to buy batteries.

  5. Baseball hat. Keep a cool head all summer with the solar powered cooling baseball hat. A small solar panel powers a fan which keeps your noggin feeling breezy on the summers hottest days.
