So you've installed a rainwater collection system, and there are barrels and barrels of rainwater just stacking up all over the place. Man, you have so much rainwater, and the kittens are tired of drinking it. They are waterlogged with sloshing bellies. You'd better get more kittens, thirsty kittens who can drink up all that rainwater.
Or you can do something sensible with it. Here are some practical ideas for rainwater usage:
- Use the rainwater for gardening. Currently our sprinkler systems are pumping our drinking water onto the lawns of this world. As the population rises, clean, fresh water is going become more expensive and scarce. One way to reduce the cost of water in the long-term is by using stored rainwater on your lawn. Keep the outside water outside and the inside water inside.
- Some cities will allow you to use your rainwater in your toilet. All cities should let you, and they probably all will eventually. Right now, however, some cities are bullies and won't allow this practice. Find out if it is available in your city, village, hamlet or township. If it is illegal, write the government. Get on their back.
- Mix it with your antifreeze. If you've got a radiator in your car, there is no need to put drinking water in the radiator. Use rainwater.
- Wash your car with it. There are high-pressure car-washing systems that are usually replenished with water from a hose. Clean your muddy Prius with stored rainwater instead.
- Mop your floors. Don't waste precious drinking water removing those pesky grape juice stains. Use rainwater for your mop, then dump the mop water on your azaleas. Let that rainwater have a double impact like Jean-Claude Van Damme.
