Sell your gift cards

Unknown.

If you received a tidy stack of gift cards over the holidays that you have little use for, consider trading them in for gift cards to stores you actually frequent, or better yet, sell them to other folk for cold, hard cash, which is always handy, no matter what the occasion.

At Cardavenue.com, you can put unwanted gift cards up for auction for 3.95 percent of the auction's closing price, plus a 50 cent closing fee. (The same fees apply when you trade a gift card for another.)

You can also buy, sell, or swap gift cards at Swapagift.com. (Sellers and traders pay a flat fee of $1.99 per transaction.) Plus, the Web site can apply your gift card's value toward any bill that needs to be paid, or turn that piece of plastic into a cash donation for a fundraising organization of your choice. Want more options? Plastic Jungle will pay up to 65 percent of your gift card's balance, while Gift Card Buy Back will fork over up to 80 percent, depending on the merchant.
